Introduction to Inflammoscopy
Inflammoscopy is the term referred to when dermoscopy is used specifically in the field of inflammatory skin diseases. In the primary care or non-specialist setting, inflammatory skin conditions can be difficult to differentiate correctly despite thorough history and examination findings. Hence, appropriate inflammoscopy education is highly valuable and can increase diagnostic certainty.
The following pages will take you through some of the inflammatory conditions which have features that are relatively straightforward to identify under inflammoscopy, without being overly detailed.
Note, the terminology may be confusing here. The term inflammoscopy refers to the skin condition you are examining, rather than the type of equipment you are using. Hence, you still use a dermatoscope when performing inflammoscopy.
